Who shines the stars?

who shines the stars in the sky when they start to get dull?
who keeps the moon dust and cobwebs from stealing their light?
because every star is bound to lose its shine, it's just what happens over time.
there must be someone working hard to keep them looking bright.

who is assigned to diligently perform this celestial chore?
who is the one who prides himself on a well lit heaven?
there are nights when I look up and the sky doesn't quite seem bright enough
and I think to myself, it must be time to shine the stars again

A very close call

"Why'd ya do it?" She asked as she carefully inspected his wounds. His right leg was bloody where a round went through just above the knee. Another round hit his left hand and tore it up badly. It's a good thing he gave up playing the saxophone.

The least painful of his wounds was by far the scariest. A bullet had grazed his left ear but left only a small scratch above his eye. It could have been much worse.

"So why'd ya do it?", she asked again.

He smirked, "I dunno. I guess I was bored."

You will eventually fail

He gets passing grades and he doesn’t even have to try
He is content with second-best because he knows it will get him by
But the one thing he may never learn
is that some things have to be earned
And you will eventually fail if your goal is only to survive

Our dream must be for more than simply being comfortable in life
We will not persevere very long without a better future in mind
Sometimes the best thing you can become
is discontent with what you’ve known
You will eventually fail if your goal is only to survive

leaving busted

Come on! Get on the bus, Ted.”

Sara was so excited to finally be leaving that she was starting to get tired of waiting.
She was tired of sixteen years of fighting. She was tired of shallow conversation and empty promises.
She was tired of pretending she was happy when she just wanted to leave.

And she was tired of sitting on a bus in the station waiting for Ted to get on.

Sara knew that as soon as the bus pulled out of that little town and carried her far away from her parent’s house, she would be ok.
